Adoption Process

All adoptions in China are handled by the Chinese government through an office called the China Center for Children’s Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA). New Day is not an adoption agency, and we have no say in the adoption process for any of our children. Our only involvement is that we care for the children until they are adopted. If you are interested in adopting a particular child you have met or seen at New Day, we have no way of facilitating that, as it is outside of the Chinese government’s established adoption procedures.

However, there are many children in China who need parents. We hope that your love for the children living at New Day will spur you on to adopting any eligible child, regardless of where they currently reside. If you are interested in adopting, you will first need to contact a licensed agency in your country of citizenship. If your country has worked with China to establish a way for its citizens to adopt from China, a licensed agency in your country working with the CCAA will be able to provide you with all of the current requirements and details of the process.

Many potential adoptive parents do not fully explore adoption because they fear they are too old, or that adoption will cost too much, or that it will be too complicated. Please don’t let these fears stop you from fully exploring adoption before deciding whether or not it is right for you! If you have been matched with a child from New Day Foster Home there are some things you need to keep in mind.

• The information in bios and monthly updates to sponsors are to give a general idea of the challenges our children face. This information is not intended to be a substitute for a complete and up-to-date referral packet from your adoption agency. Please keep in mind that in our communications, we always try to focus on a child’s strengths, accomplishments, and positive developments, not in an attempt to gloss-over their often serious medical conditions, but in an effort to share a glimpse of their precious personalities.
• New Day Foster Home is not a hospital. All medical information on each child is obtained from local Chinese hospitals. The Chinese medical system has its limits and is simply not on-par with the type of system we are accustomed to in the USA. There have been cases in the past when an adoptive family learns of the full extent of a child’s medical need – sometimes serious – after the adoption is finalized. This is the reality of adoption from China, and adopting a child from New Day does not guarantee you a healthier child or even more accurate and comprehensive medical data.
• NDFH is restricted by CCCWA and the SWI’s from providing medical information on a child directly to an adoptive family. All medical information must be obtained through CCCWA. Often medical files in the adoption profile are not updated as frequently as we’d hope, so as an adoptive family it is highly recommended that you ask for an updated medical file. And be sure that your agency asks pointed questions when requesting the update so as to encourage the orphanage to disclose all the details instead of simply providing a general physical and developmental update.

There are many more agencies to consider, and you should thoroughly research any agency before selecting them as your adoption partner. This list of questions to ask an agency is a good tool to use in selecting a program. Also, be sure to ask for adoptive family references, and don’t be afraid to ask hard questions!
