Faculty

Allen Opperud
Allan comes from Minnesota in the United States. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, where he majored in biochemistry technology.
In 1980, he earned a degree of Interpersonal Relations. He was an interpersonal relation professor for 17 years. He has traveled throughout China since 1999, and in 2005, he and his wife Debbie became teachers at New Day.

Allan is a teacher who has knowledge and experience. He has two certifications in English as a Second Language, one being business certification.

Amber Parker

Amber Parker grew up near St. Louis, Missouri. She attended Milligan College in East Tennessee where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Photography. After graduation she got married to her college best friend, Chadwick Parker. Two years after undergrad she moved to Savannah Georgia where she attended graduate school at Savannah College of Art and Design. She received her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Photography. Amber always had an interest in China and during her time in school her and her husband had the opportunity to visit New Day during the summer of 2007. After returning home they had a great desire to return to New Day. Amber and her husband, Chadwick returned to China in 2009. They currently reside in Beijing, China where she is teaching English and Chadwick is Director of Digital Media for the New Day Company.

“New Day’s atmosphere of peace and kindness is one of the reasons Chad and I returned to China. We wanted to work in a positive environment and use our knowledge and skills to help others. We fell in love with the Chinese people and Chinese culture.”

Amber’s interests include reading, watching movies, spending time with her students and friends, and learning as much as she can about China. She also has a passion for photography and loves to photograph the world around her and capturing her experience in China.

Chandi Lungu
Chandi came to China, from Zambia in August of 2006. She has master’s degree in public administration from the University of the Western Cape. She spent a year studying Chinese in the Beijing Language University and volunteered with WHO in Beijing before moving to New Day. She believes that working at New Day has been one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. She has met students from all over China and says teaching them has been both enjoyable and enlightening.

Chandi enjoys traveling, reading, listening to music and playing badminton.

Deb Opperud
Debbie was born in Sascatchewan, Canada. She grew up in Minnesota, USA. She graduated from the Minnesota State University, where she majored in early childhood education. After graduating, she taught in a community school for twenty years.

In 2005, Debbie and her husband Allen began working as teachers in New Day. They have four children living in the States.

Eunice Haldorsen
Eunice grew up in Southern California in the United States and decided to become a teacher when she was in the third grade. In 1970, she received her bachelor's degree from San Diego State University, with majors in Education and Social Science. She has have lived in Mid-Western USA since she was 23 years old. While in Missouri, she taught grade and middle school for eight years. Later she went on to a Computer Technical Institute and began working for the University of Illinois, where she served as an Assistant Director of Communications and Computing. While working at the University she earned an Executive MBA. In 2006 she retired and entered into life as a New Day teacher.

Eunice has raised two sons, who married and gave her six grandchildren. They are so much fun and she misses them when in China. However, the students make her time away from her grandchildren worthwhile.

Jamie Baugh
Jamie was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, USA. She moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in January 2003 to pursue her dream of graduating from a University. She attended Oral Roberts University, where her time there was spent tutoring and mentoring her classmates and reaching out to the community. When her time at ORU was over, she completed an Elementary Education degree with an emphasis in teaching English as a second language, with honors. After graduation Jamie moved to Chicago, Illinois to teach at a prestigious private elementary academy for two years.

Jamie felt the call to China as a young girl and had an opportunity to visit the country in 2006. She joined the New Day staff in August of 2008. Jamie has enjoyed learning about the culture and the language in China and is looking forward to the future. She loves to travel around Beijing on her days off because she discovers something new about Beijing with every visit.

Janice Chen
Janice was born in Inner Mongolia. She graduated in 2008 as an English major from Wuhan University. She became a grammar teacher for New Day in February of 2009. She says she loves her students and the other staff members very much.

 

Randy Rippee
Randy is from Jefferson City, Missouri in the USA. He has four children. His two oldest children live in the USA and his two youngest live with him and his wife in China. Both his youngest girls were adopted from China when they were 1 and 3 years old respectively.

Randy first came to China 4½ years ago. While in China he worked with children in an orphanage in Dalian, China. After that experience he taught in the Maritime University in Dalian, China for 3 years. He loves living in China and learning about the culture.

He and his wife Rita love to cook Chinese food. He loves working at New Day because this school cares about the students and works hard to see that the students improve in their ability to use the English language.

Sierra Willoughby
Sierra graduated from Lee University in Tennessee, USA, with a bachelor's degree in education. She was awarded the Presidential Scholarship while attending Lee. She was also a soccer team member there. After college, she worked as a fourth grade teacher at Adamsville Elementary School in Alabama. Sierra came to China in August of 2008. Sierra is enthusiastic and warm-hearted and the students love having her as their teacher.
