Haitao | The Strength Behind His Smile
Born in 2016, Haitao is currently in third grade and is part of a family of four. This year has been particularly challenging for them, as his mother, who lives with a second-degree mental disability, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is awaiting surgery. His father balances the demands of farming with taking his wife to medical appointments, while his older brother works at a restaurant in Hohhot after finishing junior high school.

During our visits, Haitao’s playful spirit shines through as he effortlessly plays the role of a comedian, making funny faces and winking to bring laughter to everyone around him.

Yet, behind his joyful demeanor lies a stark reality. His mother, having shaved her head for chemotherapy, remains optimistic, stating, “Aside from the chemotherapy, I don’t feel bad.” Meanwhile, his father is busy working in the fields and preparing a living space for his son.

Haitao’s smile serves as a beacon of hope, providing warmth and resilience for his family amid the challenges they face.
