Lien is a 13 year old young lady with a congenital heart defect for which she should have had surgery years ago. Lien and her family live in a rural village in the Mekong River Delta. Her father is a laborer and her mother sells sugar cane juice. The doctors have scheduled Lien’s surgery in just a few weeks, right after the upcoming Tết holiday (lunar new year).
