Owen

BIRTHDAY:   July 16, 2008

Owen was born on July 16, 2008. Five days later he was found abandoned and sent to the local orphanage. He was diagnosed with anal atresia and had a temporary colostomy surgery in the local hospital on July 22, 2008. Three hours after the surgery was finished, Owen’s heart suddenly stopped beating. This little fighter showed everyone his strong desire for living, because after 5 minutes of CPR, he was resuscitated. Because the local hospital was unable to fully treat his anal atresia, his orphanage asked us to help. On August 11, Owen arrived at New Day Foster Home. Though he was tiny when he arrived, he is now one of our rambunctious toddlers!

NDV: We are happy to report that our second guest house in Vietnam is now fully operational and receiving children and families on a daily basis. Walking distance from two major hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, our new house has six large guest rooms and can easily house 24-30 children, parents and caregivers. The house has been well-equipped with all new furnishings, and we have new staff trained and in place. We received our first guests on April 2, and we hosted 36 adults and 9 children in our first month of operation. It would be hard to overstate just how much a place like this means to these families. They come to our city in a time of crisis (their child’s major surgery), often not knowing how they will be able to meet their basic needs here in the big city. The guest house affords the families a safe, clean place to sleep near the hospital, healthy meals every day, and the support and care of our staff and other families facing similar challenges. Our most sincere and heartfelt thanks to all who gave last year to make this launch possible. Through your generosity, we will keep the doors of hospitality open for children and families in need for years to come. ... See MoreSee Less
