Born in September 2018, Shao Wei was diagnosed with cerebral palsy shortly after birth. With both of his parents being disabled and unable to provide the necessary care, at the age of three and a half, Shao Wei was placed in a local children’s welfare institution. On June 24, 2024, he was transferred to the Savannah CCU Project for specialized care.
Shao Wei’s physical condition presents challenges, being underweight, with stiff limbs, and difficulties eating. While he can swallow properly, his inability to close his lips makes him prone to coughing episodes and pneumonia. Efforts have been made to adjust his feeding posture and provide him with nutritious meals to address these issues.
Despite his physical challenges, Shao Wei is a cheerful child who loves to smile. Approach him, and he will greet you with a warm smile. When in need of assistance, he vocalizes a gentle “hey, ah” to seek help, and his gratitude is expressed through another smile once aid is provided. During meals, he establishes eye contact and uses different cues to indicate his preferences, whether it be wanting to eat or signaling that he is full.
Every day, Shao Wei enjoys sitting in a chair, observing his surroundings and the people around him. His progress in feeding and rehabilitation is crucial, and he requires additional support, including rehabilitation training and specialized seating. The hope is that with continued care and assistance, Shao Wei will make strides forward in his development soon.
