Trey was born on January 1, 2007 and abandoned on March 14, 2007. When he was abandoned, he was quite jaundiced. The orphanage ran medical tests and discovered that he had a heart disease (Tetralogy of Fallot) and suspected Biliary Atresia, a condition where the bile ducts in the liver are blocked or absent which prevents them from properly draining bile thereby leading to liver damage. He also had water on both kidneys. His orphanage sent him to Tianjin for heart surgery, but the hospital there said that he must have treatment for his liver and kidney problems before they would do heart surgery. As a result, his orphanage asked us to take him so that he could receive treatment for all of the conditions without traveling back and forth between Beijing and his home orphanage, which is very far away. When we took him to a Beijing hospital for a checkup, they determined that he did not have Biliary Ateresia or water on his kidneys, so he had heart surgery on July 21, 2008. Trey quickly recovered, and he has adjusted amazingly well. He is a cute little boy who is always curious about his surroundings.
