Born in 2013, Ziheng is now in fourth grade and has been lovingly raised by his grandparents, both in their seventies, since he was born. His father works far from home throughout the year, while his mother struggles with mental disabilities and epilepsy, rendering her unable to care for herself. Each day, his grandmother lovingly prepares meals for her daughter-in-law, stokes the fire, and tends to Ziheng’s needs.
The family survives on a subsistence allowance of $150 per month.
During the summer vacation, Ziheng spent time at his aunt’s home. Upon returning to his grandparents’ home, he was warmly welcomed by his grandmother, who was busy chopping vegetables. She eagerly offered us a taste of the fresh cucumbers harvested from their garden. When the conversation turned to Ziheng’s mother, she quietly remarked, “She has been seriously ill since he was conceived.”
Though their home is small, it is filled with a simple, comforting warmth.
In this nurturing environment, the quiet boy has grown up, embraced by the love and care of his grandparents.
