Nicole was born with severe spina bifida, she was abandoned at the gate of the local orphanage. Unable to locate her parents, the orphanage took her to the hospital right away when they noticed that the spina bifida was broken and open, leaking spinal fluid. After doing a check-up, local doctors said they did not have the experience or skill necessary to operate on her due to the severity of her condition. They were able to test her lower-limb functionality, and unfortunately found that due to the fact that the spina bifida ruptured, she had lost all responsiveness and reflexes in her legs. The orphanage called New Day Foster Home for help, and on October 16, 2010, Nicole arrived at Beijing where she was immediately checked into a hospital for treatment. She is a beautiful, peaceful, and sweet baby girl, and we believe that she can overcome these challenges!
